How do you see journalism?

We all see reporters and journalists in the field all the time on tv or social media, but do you really ever think about what they went through for this coverage or information? This makes the circumstances and the dangers they face feel distant and nonexistent. But what they face is very very real. While listening to the global news network Al Jazeera with my dad this morning, I learned of an American reporter who was killed in Ukraine yesterday. Hearing this didn't really resonate with me until a few hours later when I was scrolling monotonously through Tic Tock, and saw a video posted by NBC. It was an interview of another reporter in Ukraine who was explaining what had happened to the other recently deceased reporter who he had been with in the warzone. Hearing the horror and details of the incident being explained by the sobbing reporter really made me think about how little we know of the troubles reporters go through to bring us information. Shifting perspectives or rather locations

  When I was about eight years old, my mom and dad told my sister and I that we would be going to another country for about a year in order for my dad to complete a sabbatical. This would mean we’d be moving to a completely unknown place with nobody we knew and no knowledge of the culture or language. But we didn’t care; we knew nothing of the difficulties it would bring. I was just a child excited to see a new place. Much to my distaste we chose to go to Ecuador. I was gunning to go to Thailand.  When we first arrived, I was still frustrated and aggravated about leaving my home and all my friends behind for a strange “smelly” place. All I could think is “this is not Thailand.” We started taking Spanish lessons from a man named Felipe. He was very kind hearted and I actually enjoyed the lessons because we would always just chat over a game of chess or cards. It was fun. He bribed me with a quick soccer match after the lesson. The data and dangers in journalism

This week I decided to take a deeper dive into the podcast side of journalism. I listened to a few different podcasts from it's all journalism and journalism podcast that has literally everything. The episode that really intrigued me was episode 502. They had a guest speaker named Amos gelb. He owns Dc Witness and Baltimore witness. Both reporting websites that shed light to unheard stories. He describes the work they do as the reporters gathering the data. He says on the pod “A lot of people report about crime but nobody is gathering the data,”. They are gathering the data on these stories so people are not forgotten and things don't go unpunished.    The main story he talks about is the death of a young back reporter who was killed on the job. Her story goes as follows ““stepped off a bus and walked into a shootout and someone used her as a human shield and she died,” a crime that happened while the rest of the region was shocked by the torture and murder of a wealthy white ...
